NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks tumbled on Wednesday as bleak economic data fed worries that all the efforts to unlock credit markets may not stave off a severe recession.
The Dow Jones industrial average sank 733.08 points, or 7.87 percent, to finish unofficially at 8,577.91, based on the latest available data. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index tumbled 90.23 points, or 9.04 percent, to end unofficially at 906.98. The Nasdaq Composite Index skidded 150.68 points, or 8.47 percent, to close unofficially at 1,628.33.
